Attendance

Important information about attendance

If your child will be out of school due to illness, travel, or any other issues, please notify the Redford Union Attendance hotline at 313-242-4210. You must call within 48 hours of the absence, or it will not be excused.  Mrs. Klus is available from 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM for attendance issues or concerns. Please feel free to call, and we will assist you in any way we can. Only a parent or guardian can call a student in sick or late. Absences will not be excused if a student calls in for another student or for themselves.

Please note that at the beginning of the school year, each student is assigned a locker to be used ONLY by that student. Too many students use other students' lockers to store coats or books, and then ask the counseling office to find the student whose locker contains the book they need. This will no longer be tolerated, as it is too disruptive.

If students keep things in a locker other than their own, we cannot be held responsible for lost or stolen items.

It is important when students are in class, interruptions be kept to a minimum. It is very disruptive when we call a teacher to give them messages in regard to a parent's phone call. Students must come to school prepared with all the necessary things they need:

  • ID badge
  • Planner
  • Lunch money
  • Homework assignments
  • Gym clothes
  • The name of the party who is going to be giving them a ride home.

Children should arrange rides prior to their arrival at school.

Please be aware that students are not permitted to use the telephones in the counseling office. In the event your student is ill, a secretary will call you to pick up your student.

If a student is not called in late by a parent, that student will receive an unexcused pass. It is imperative that your child be seated in their desk and ready to work by 7:15 AM.
